Program Intern

Downtown Lynchburg Association (DLA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Program Intern to support various initiatives and projects to enhance the vibrancy of our downtown community. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning, and nonprofit administration while contributing to meaningful projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Pre/Post Event Experience: Attend bi-weekly event meetings and provide logistical support in planning. Assist in post-event cleanup and debriefing. Responsibilities will include executing a Volunteer day on 5th Street, planning an event in the market parking lot, supporting the International Festival, and hosting a local business meetup.

  • Vendor/Volunteer Coordination: Assist with vendor applications, communicate with business owners regarding event logistics, and coordinate volunteers before and during events to ensure smooth execution.

  • Website Management: Help maintain and update content, including editing maps and updating the Dine, Drink, and Shop pages.

  • Database Management: Work with our donor database, including cleaning up tags and organizing donor information, assisting with donor benefits fulfillment.

  • Grant Tracking/Applications: Support planning and documentation for upcoming grant initiatives including Facade Improvement Grant and Launch LYH. 

  • Proofreading and Documentation: Ensure accuracy and consistency in written materials, reports, and promotional content. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in progress in Business, Communications, Event Management, or a related field

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Interest in event planning, community engagement, or nonprofit management.

  • Flexibility and willingness to take on varied tasks.

  • Familiarity with Downtown Lynchburg is a plus.

Schedule: Approximately 15 hours per week, with some evening or weekend availability required for event support. We are willing to work with class schedules.

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Academic credit may be available depending on your institution's requirements.
